Habib Bank Limited (HBL) has entered into a strategic partnership with SHIFT Financial Services Ltd to expand international remittance connectivity to Pakistan and improve digital payout capabilities. Announced by SHIFT, the collaboration brings together its international payment network and cross-border payment technology with HBL’s established banking presence and receiving infrastructure in Pakistan. The partnership aims to connect supported international sending markets with beneficiaries in Pakistan, making it easier to transfer money across borders through connected payment channels. The initiative reflects continued efforts by financial institutions and payment service providers to improve remittance services for individuals and families receiving funds from abroad.
Under the partnership, SHIFT will connect supported sending markets across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), Africa, Europe and other regions with recipients in Pakistan. HBL’s local banking infrastructure will serve as the receiving side of this arrangement, linking international payment partners with domestic payout capabilities. This model can help streamline the movement of remittances between overseas senders and beneficiaries in Pakistan by connecting existing payment networks rather than requiring customers to navigate disconnected services. However, the announcement did not specify which individual sending countries or payment partners will be available at launch, nor did it disclose transaction limits, transfer fees, exchange-rate arrangements or the implementation timeline.
International remittances are an important source of foreign exchange for Pakistan and provide financial support to households across the country. Overseas Pakistanis regularly send money to family members to cover household expenses, education, healthcare and other needs. Digital remittance infrastructure can help improve the convenience of these transfers by supporting faster processing and offering additional ways for beneficiaries to receive funds. For customers, the effectiveness of such services depends on factors including transfer costs, processing times, service availability and the accessibility of payout channels. By combining SHIFT’s international network with HBL’s domestic banking presence, the partnership seeks to establish additional connections between overseas payment services and recipients in Pakistan. The companies have not yet provided figures for expected transaction volumes or the number of customers the arrangement could serve.
The collaboration also reflects the broader development of cross-border payment services as banks and financial technology companies seek to connect international payment systems with local financial infrastructure. Improved connectivity can give remittance providers additional routes for delivering funds while helping banks extend their role in receiving international transfers. For Pakistan, expanding these channels could support access to formal remittance services and provide overseas senders with more options for transferring money home. The partnership’s eventual impact will depend on the rollout of supported corridors, the participating payment providers and the service experience offered to customers. Further details about launch dates, available payout methods and the commercial terms of the arrangement have not been announced.
