1LINK is powering the Pasban Remittance Rewards Scheme, an industry-wide initiative led by the Pakistan Banks Association (PBA) to encourage overseas Pakistanis and their families to use formal channels for sending and receiving remittances. The initiative was launched at the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) in the presence of SBP Governor Jameel Ahmad, along with PBA CEO Muneer Kamal and senior representatives from the banking sector. The scheme is supported by 26 participating banks and uses 1LINK’s digital infrastructure and operational capabilities to facilitate several key processes. These include draw token generation, data processing and automated prize draws. By using a centralized technology infrastructure, the initiative is designed to provide a system-driven mechanism for managing participation and rewards while supporting the broader objective of promoting formal home remittance channels in Pakistan. Remittances sent by overseas Pakistanis represent an important source of foreign exchange for the country, making the continued use of regulated banking and financial channels an important part of the formal financial system.
The Pasban Remittance Rewards Scheme is designed around the participation of customers using formal remittance channels, with 1LINK providing the technology infrastructure required to manage the scheme’s operational processes. The company’s role includes generating draw tokens, processing relevant data and supporting transparent, automated prize draws. This allows participating banks to operate within a common technology framework while maintaining a structured process for the rewards programme. The involvement of 26 banks also gives the initiative an industry-wide scope, bringing multiple financial institutions into a shared system for promoting formal remittance flows. Formal channels can include regulated banks and other authorized financial institutions through which overseas Pakistanis send funds to beneficiaries in Pakistan. The initiative therefore combines a customer-reward mechanism with the banking sector’s broader efforts to encourage remittance transactions through documented and regulated channels.
The launch event at the SBP brought together senior representatives from across Pakistan’s banking industry, including CEOs and presidents of participating financial institutions as well as leadership from the central bank, PBA and 1LINK. SBP Governor Jameel Ahmad served as the keynote speaker, while PBA CEO Muneer Kamal delivered a presentation about the initiative. The participation of the banking sector’s senior leadership reflects the industry-wide nature of the programme and its focus on strengthening formal remittance channels. 1LINK’s infrastructure provides the technical layer supporting the rewards mechanism, allowing processes such as token generation and prize draws to be handled electronically. Automated processing can also provide a standardized approach to managing large volumes of participant information across multiple banks. The initiative demonstrates how shared financial infrastructure can be used to support programmes involving several financial institutions while maintaining a common operational framework.
For Pakistan, encouraging formal remittance channels remains relevant to the wider financial system because home remittances contribute to foreign exchange inflows and connect overseas Pakistanis with the domestic banking sector. The Pasban scheme adds a rewards-based element to this effort by providing participating customers with an opportunity to enter automated draws while using formal remittance services. 1LINK said the initiative is designed to deliver a transparent and system-driven rewards experience for beneficiaries across Pakistan. Its involvement highlights the role of payment and banking infrastructure providers in supporting financial-sector initiatives beyond transaction processing alone. With 26 banks participating, the scheme brings together a broad section of the banking industry and uses 1LINK’s digital infrastructure to coordinate the technical processes behind the rewards programme. The initiative ultimately combines formal remittance promotion, banking-sector participation and digital infrastructure to support greater use of regulated channels for home remittances.
